Lamentation Mountain State Park

Lamentation Mountain State Park is a natural preserve in Berlin with hiking trails that cross varied terrain and reach an elevation of about 100 meters. The site spans roughly 47 acres and offers multiple marked routes for visitors of different fitness levels.

The park was founded in 1936 and developed as a recreation site for Connecticut residents. Since then it has protected the natural landscape of Berlin and remains a lasting legacy of regional conservation efforts.

The park plays a central role in the Connecticut Passport program, which allows state residents to access outdoor spaces without parking fees.

Parking is available near the trailheads and provides easy access to the hiking routes. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and prepare for changing weather conditions, especially on the hillier sections.

From the park, visitors can reach observation points overlooking the Connecticut River Valley with opportunities to watch wildlife across the seasons. Spring and fall are especially good times to spot migratory birds and other animals along the trails.
