The recreation area encompasses 7,000 acres of longleaf pine forests and fields, offering extensive trails for outdoor activities throughout the year.
The state park was established in 1994 on former Sand Hills State Forest land to commemorate Dr. H. Cooper Black Jr. of Columbia.
The facility stands as South Carolina's primary location for national field trial competitions and retriever training events throughout the seasons.
Visitors can access 27 camping sites with electrical hookups, stables for horses, kennels for dogs, and multiple fishing ponds within the grounds.
The recreation area includes three specialized training fields designed specifically for retriever competitions and field trials.
