Blue Springs Lake, body of water
Blue Springs Lake is a reservoir in Jackson County spanning approximately 720 acres of water and surrounding green areas. The shoreline is lined with trees, while gentle waves lap against the banks and birds can be heard throughout the day.
The area around the lake was originally used for farming and local leisure activities. Over time, it was developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is now managed by Jackson County Parks and Recreation as a public destination.
The lake has long served as a gathering place for local recreation and fishing. Today, people of all ages visit to spend time with family and friends, picnic, or simply enjoy the quiet water and natural surroundings.
The lake offers boat ramps, a lifeguard-supervised swimming beach, picnic shelters, and walking trails along the shoreline. Visitors should know that swimming is only permitted in the designated beach area or from anchored boats with life jackets, and that permits are required for all watercraft.
The lake was infested with invasive zebra mussels in 2017, leading to strict biosecurity measures. Visitors are asked to thoroughly clean and drain their boats to prevent these aquatic pests from spreading to other waterways.
