Glen Maury

Glen Maury is a two-story brick residence in Rockbridge County with a Classical Revival portico featuring paired columns. The building rests on a native stone foundation and includes a five-bay verandah facing the river with views across the landscape.

The house was built between 1829 and 1832 by John Jordan and Samuel Darst. It received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The mansion displays the building traditions of early 19th-century Virginia, using methods common in the region at that time. The Classical Revival details show what wealthy landowners valued in their homes during this period.

The property sits along a river section and offers views of the surrounding landscape from the verandah. Visitors should know the location is rural, making a car the most practical way to reach it.

The residence originally had a main section but received a two-story rear addition around 1900. This later addition with wooden posts and brackets shows how the property was adapted to meet changing needs over time.
