Atlantic Garden, Theatre in Chinatown, Manhattan, US
The Atlantic Garden extends through an entire block with a main entrance on Bowery Street and a secondary entrance on Elizabeth Street.
William Kramer established this entertainment venue in 1858 on the former site of Bull's Head Tavern, which previously served as New York's cattle market headquarters.
The venue transformed from a German beer garden with music performances to a Yiddish theatre in 1910, reflecting the changing demographics of Manhattan.
The original structure remained at 50 Bowery until 2013, when the site was cleared for the construction of a modern high-rise hotel complex.
The Atlantic Garden combined theatre performances with a beer hall, creating an entertainment format that differed from traditional theatre venues of that era.
