The Museum of Chinese in America displays over 85,000 items including historical documents, photographs, memorabilia spanning 160 years of Chinese American history.
Founded in 1980 as the New York Chinatown History Project by historian John Kuo Wei Tchen and activist Charles Lai to document Chinese American experiences.
The museum presents exhibitions about Chinese American narratives through artifacts, documents, and personal stories collected from community members over generations.
Located at 215 Centre Street, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00, with extended hours until 21:00 on Thursdays.
Following a devastating fire in January 2020, specialists restored numerous artifacts from water damage, leading to the museum's reopening in July 2021.
