The Rocklands estate features a five-bay brick dwelling with a hipped roof and monumental Ionic order hexastyle portico near Gordonsville, Virginia.
Built in 1905 for Thomas Atkinson, the mansion underwent major renovations from 1933 to 1935 under architect William Lawrence Bottomley's direction.
The property includes formal gardens designed by Umberto Innocenti and contributes to the Madison-Barbour Rural Historic District's architectural heritage.
The estate contains multiple structures including a guest house, service court with garage, servant quarters, woodshed, and a 19th-century coach barn.
During the 1930s renovation, the entire structure was lowered by removing the high basement to create a better connection with the surrounding landscape.
