Pattington Apartments, Historic residential complex in Buena Park, Chicago, US.
Pattington Apartments is a residential complex with 84 units spread across a 2.7-acre campus in Chicago's northern Buena Park neighborhood. The buildings feature bay windows and an inward-facing courtyard design typical of early 1900s apartment construction.
The complex was built in 1902 by Telford and McWade Builders under architect David E. Postle's design and was Chicago's largest apartment complex at the time. The site gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places and received the Richard H. Driehaus Preservation Award in 1995.
The complex shows how affluent Chicagoans redefined apartment living in the early 1900s as a form of upscale residential space. The layout with courtyards and bay windows represented a shift toward comfort and status for wealthy residents.
The complex sits one block from Lake Michigan and offers three garages with electric vehicle charging stations for convenient access. Private gardens and a communal patio area with furnishings provide outdoor spaces to explore and enjoy.
The original architecture has been preserved through specialized restoration work that maintained elements from over 120 years ago in their original condition. This dedication made the property a model for preserving other historic residential complexes in the city.
