Woodside Amusement Park, Amusement park in West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, United States.
Woodside Amusement Park was an entertainment venue in West Fairmount Park with multiple roller coasters, a ballroom for dancing, a casino building, and a scenic lake with gondola rides. The grounds spread across several acres and provided diverse attractions for visitors.
The Fairmount Park Transportation Company built this park in 1897 at the end of their new trolley line extension. Operations ceased in 1955 as the trolley system declined in use.
The swimming pool maintained segregated membership rules for many decades before finally opening to everyone in 1952. It became a focal point for civil rights efforts in the city.
The park entrance was located near the intersection of Ford Road and Monument Road, accessible by a trolley line that circled Fairmount Park. Today the site no longer operates, so visitors interested in the history should research the location beforehand.
A wooden cycling track about 500 meters long was where cyclist Major Taylor set multiple world records in 1898. This track drew serious cycling enthusiasts and helped establish the park as a hub for the sport.
