Strawberry Mansion, House museum in Fairmount Park, Pennsylvania, United States
Strawberry Mansion is a three-story house in Fairmount Park with a central section and two side wings. The symmetrical windows and classical details reflect early American Federal architecture.
Judge William Lewis built the house between 1783 and 1789, originally naming it Summerville. The name changed to Strawberry Mansion in the mid-1800s as the building was adapted for museum use.
The rooms display furniture and objects from the late 1700s that show how wealthy families lived and furnished their homes. Each space tells about daily life and the habits of the people who occupied it.
Visiting is best during the warmer months when all interior spaces are fully open to the public. Guided tours walk through the house at a comfortable pace and explain what you see.
The house sits on one of Philadelphia's highest points with views toward the Schuylkill River. This elevated location gives the grounds a natural vantage point over the surrounding landscape.
