Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse

Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is a recreation center in East Fairmount Park featuring a three-story Victorian building and approximately 6.5 acres of outdoor grounds. The space includes climbing structures, swings, slides, and multiple play zones designed for different age groups.

The site was established in 1899 by Richard and Sarah Smith as a dedicated children's recreation area in Philadelphia. The Victorian-style building was designed by architect James H. Windrim and remains the centerpiece of the grounds.

This playground serves as a gathering space where families experience free live music, art-making, and community events during the Kidchella Music Festival each summer.
