Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse, Historic playground in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, United States
Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is a recreation center in East Fairmount Park featuring a three-story Victorian building and approximately 6.5 acres of outdoor grounds. The space includes climbing structures, swings, slides, and multiple play zones designed for different age groups.
The site was established in 1899 by Richard and Sarah Smith as a dedicated children's recreation area in Philadelphia. The Victorian-style building was designed by architect James H. Windrim and remains the centerpiece of the grounds.
This playground serves as a gathering space where families experience free live music, art-making, and community events during the Kidchella Music Festival each summer.
This facility is designed for children under 10 years old for outdoor activities and those under 5 for indoor spaces, with adult supervision required at all times. Planning your visit by checking which zones match your child's age and interests helps make the most of your time here.
The Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide is a striking wooden structure that allows multiple children to slide down side-by-side simultaneously. This feature has become an iconic attraction that draws repeat visits from families across generations.
