Woodford

Woodford is a two-story Georgian mansion in Fairmount Park with a symmetrical brick facade and traditional colonial architectural details throughout. The rooms retain their original layout and furnishings reflecting domestic spaces from the 1700s.

William Coleman, a Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice, built this summer residence in 1756 as a single-story house. A second story was added in 1772, doubling the structure's size and creating the building seen today.

The mansion operates as a museum displaying the Naomi Wood collection of colonial-era furniture and domestic objects that reflect how affluent households lived in early America. Walking through the rooms reveals the daily customs and domestic arrangements of families during that period.

The mansion is located within Fairmount Park and can be accessed through the park entrance at Ford Road and Greenland Drive. Guided tours are offered during regular hours and provide insight into the building's history and furnishings.

This property was Philadelphia's first Georgian mansion and maintained its original room layout despite changing hands many times over three centuries. This unusual continuity allows visitors to experience the authentic arrangement and character of an 18th century household.
