Shrine of the Pines, Handcrafted furniture museum in Baldwin, Michigan, US.

The Shrine of the Pines is a museum housed in a log cabin that displays over 200 handmade furniture pieces carved from white pine stumps using traditional joinery without any metal fasteners. Each item showcases woodworking methods where the craftsman joined the wood purely through interlocking techniques.

Raymond W. Overholzer built this log cabin in 1939 to display his collection of furniture made from leftover materials from the Manistee Forest area. His work emerged during the period when Michigan's logging industry had already reshaped the regional landscape.

The collection shows how a craftsman turned logging waste into beautiful furniture during a time when Michigan's forests were being harvested. Visitors can see the care he put into each piece and understand his respect for the materials he salvaged.

The site is open during the warmer months from spring through fall and offers guided visits for people interested in learning more. It helps to check opening times beforehand and allow enough time to see the detailed collection without rushing.

The craftsman used unconventional materials such as broken glass to sand the wooden surfaces and deer hide for finishing his creations. These improvised techniques reveal the resourcefulness of someone who worked with whatever was available around him.
