Delaware Park, Park in Buffalo, New York, US
Delaware Park is a large public park in the northern part of Buffalo, New York. It includes open grass fields, a lake, an 18-hole golf course, tennis and basketball courts, and outdoor fitness areas.
Delaware Park was designed in the late 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same landscape architect behind Central Park in New York City. It was part of a broader system of connected parks that Olmsted planned for Buffalo.
On summer evenings, local actors perform Shakespeare and other plays outdoors in the park. People bring snacks and sit on the grass to watch, turning the event into a casual gathering.
The park is in the north of Buffalo and easy to reach from several neighborhoods. The circular road around the park is sometimes closed to cars, which makes it more comfortable for runners and cyclists.
Delaware Park hosted the Pan-American Exposition of 1901, a world's fair that drew hundreds of thousands of visitors to Buffalo. Almost nothing of that event remains visible today, yet the landscape still follows Olmsted's original layout.
