Buffalo Zoo, Zoo in Buffalo, United States
Buffalo Zoo is a facility across a large area where animals from around the world live in separate habitats and zones. The spaces are designed to look similar to the animals' natural environments.
The zoo started in 1875 when a local fur trader gave the city two deer. During hard economic times in the 1930s, the grounds were developed and improved significantly.
The entrance courtyard, designed in the 1930s, reflects the architectural style of that era and is recognized as a historic structure. Visitors can sense how the space was imagined decades ago as they move through this gateway into the grounds.
The grounds are easy to explore on foot, with different animal areas connected by paved paths. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk through many sections.
A section for arctic animals with polar bears and wolves opened in the 2010s and displays species from cold regions. This section is one of the newer parts of the zoo.
