Parkside East Historic District, Historic residential district in Buffalo, New York.
Parkside East Historic District is a residential neighborhood in Buffalo with homes in various styles including Colonial Revival, Prairie School, and American Four Square. About 1769 buildings are spread across roughly 226 acres, forming a larger historic settlement.
Development began in 1876 following Frederick Law Olmsted's plan for parks and parkways in Buffalo. It continued to grow as a middle-class residential area until 1936.
The buildings show how Buffalo's middle class wanted to live and what architecture they preferred in the late 1800s. You can see their homes and neighborhoods still standing today.
The area's boundaries follow Parkside Avenue, Amherst Street, Colvin Avenue, the NY Central Railroad tracks, Main Street, and Humboldt Avenue. These streets help you get your bearings and explore the different sections.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed two remarkable houses in this area: the Walter V. Davidson House and the Darwin D. Martin House. These buildings show how important the neighborhood is to American architectural history.
