Brestenberg Castle

Brestenberg is a Baroque castle set on elevated ground near Lake Hallwil in Seengen, featuring classical architectural details and symmetrical proportions. The stone structure displays characteristic windows and was designed as a country residence.

The castle was built in 1625 by Hans Rudolf von Hallwyl, replacing an earlier 16th-century structure. It functioned as a country residence for the noble family for several centuries.

The structure reflects the lifestyle of the Hallwyl family, who shaped the building as their residence and left traces of their presence throughout the rooms. Visitors can observe how Swiss nobility organized their domestic spaces.

The castle is located on Brestenbergstrasse 8 with parking facilities available on site at reasonable rates. The nearby Lake Hallwil is easily accessible on foot.

From 1844 onward, the castle was converted into a health resort where guests received therapeutic baths and treatment. This transformation continued into the post-World War II era.
