Seeburg

Seeburg is a mansion on a peninsula jutting into Lake Brienz, distinguished by architecture inspired by southern regions and substantial stone walls. The property includes several buildings and is marked by an ornate iron gate at its entrance.

Merchant Gottfried Siegrist purchased the land in 1907 and demolished the former Hotel Belvédère to build his private residence. This construction marked a shift from tourism businesses to private ownership at this valuable waterfront location.

The building reflects the wealth and taste of early 20th-century Swiss merchant class, displaying architectural elements inspired by southern regions that stand out in this landscape. Visitors can observe the details of the stone walls and ornate ironwork, which show how the original owner wanted to display his status.

Access to the property is by foot from Iseltwald, and the building sits directly on the shoreline, making it easy to view from the lake side. The proximity to the adjacent Schneckeninsel island allows visitors to explore the entire waterfront area on a single walk.

After completion, the building sat unused for years and became a shelter for bat colonies in its empty rooms. It was later revived as a seminar and conference venue and now serves as a space for education and professional gatherings.
