Casa Monte Tabor, Historic residence in Ronco sopra Ascona, Switzerland

Casa Monte Tabor is a three-story residence with angular design situated on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, featuring broad terraces facing the water. The building sits close to the lake, while the cantonal road connecting Ascona and Brissago runs directly behind the property.

The residence gained prominence when German author Erich Maria Remarque purchased it in 1931, using it as a refuge during the rise of National Socialism. The author spent important years there and transformed it into a gathering point for like-minded individuals.

The residence served as a gathering place where writers, artists, and intellectuals met and exchanged ideas during the middle of the twentieth century. You can still see the rooms where these encounters took place.

The residence sits right by the lakeshore in a quiet section of the northern area, making it easy to locate and access. Visitors should note that the road runs directly beside it, so parking nearby is somewhat limited.

The house gets its name from Monte Tabor mountain, while the Riale del Monte Tabor stream marks the southern edge of the property. These geographical features connect the residence to the surrounding mountain landscape in a meaningful way.
