Piz Sarsura, Mountain summit in Grisons, Switzerland

Piz Sarsura is a mountain summit in the Albula Alps with two distinct peaks, the western one slightly higher than the other. The mountain is shaped by two major glaciers that slowly transform the landscape and define its appearance.

The mountain is located in the Albula Alps and has long been shaped by glaciers that carved the terrain over centuries. These ice masses developed the current form of the peak through gradual geological processes.

The name Piz Sarsura comes from Romansh, the local language of the Grisons region, where mountain names preserve Alpine traditions. This linguistic heritage is visible throughout the area and shapes how locals relate to their mountains.

The ascent typically starts from the Grialetsch hut, which sits at a high elevation and serves as a base camp. Visitors should prepare for changing conditions depending on which season they choose to climb the mountain.

The mountain offers completely different challenges depending on the season, shifting from a summer hiking route to a much more demanding winter climb. These seasonal differences make each ascent a distinct experience.
