Kanbula Park

The national forest park extends across 152 square kilometers, featuring red sandstone cliffs, mountain ranges, and the Lijiaxia Reservoir between 2,100 and 4,000 meters elevation.

The park represents a key location for Tibetan Buddhism during the Houhong period, leading to the establishment of multiple temples including Nanzongzha Temple over 1000 years ago.

Seven Tibetan villages maintain their traditions within the park boundaries, where residents practice agriculture and preserve religious customs through Buddhist temples and monasteries.

Visitors can reach the park via a 131-kilometer drive from Xining, with internal transportation provided through park buses and boat services on the reservoir.

The forest contains 800 plant species and rare animals such as blue sheep and argali, while supporting a 28 percent forest coverage rate with Qinghai spruce and Chinese pine.
