Gronau, Urban municipality in Borken district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Gronau is a medium-sized district town in Borken county, North Rhine-Westphalia, near the Dutch border. Residential neighborhoods, commercial streets, and green areas spread across the town, which is crossed by smaller waterways.
After 1854, Dutch entrepreneurs built the first textile factory in what was then a small farming center. Industrialization transformed the town and drew workers from the surrounding region.
The Rock and Pop Museum displays instruments, costumes, and memorabilia from several decades of German music history inside a former industrial building on the edge of town. Visitors can walk through rotating exhibitions accompanied by live concerts and workshops.
The main train station sits in the center and offers connections to Münster, Enschede, and other regional cities. Motorways A30 and A31 run nearby, allowing fast arrival by car.
Only two kilometers separate the town from the Dutch border, so residents and visitors can experience both countries in a single day. Cross-border bicycle and walking paths connect both sides without checkpoints or barriers.
