Pinneberg, District capital and urban municipality in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
Pinneberg is a district capital in southern Schleswig-Holstein that extends north of the Elbe and reaches the edge of Hamburg. The town sits within a landscape of extensive tree nurseries and green areas that shape the surrounding countryside.
A castle from the year 1200 formed the core of the settlement, which was expanded into a fortress during the 15th century. After the fortress was demolished in the early 18th century, the town developed into an administrative center with Baroque buildings.
The Drostei building from the Baroque era now houses event spaces and a gallery that regularly features exhibitions. Visitors can walk through the adjacent park with mature trees and experience quiet moments within the town.
The railway station is centrally located and offers connections to Hamburg via S-Bahn line S3, which runs several times per hour during the day. Walking from the station to most points in the center takes less than ten minutes.
The extensive tree nurseries around the town form the largest connected cultivation area of this kind in Germany. Driving through the outskirts in spring or autumn reveals endless rows of young trees and shrubs in all sizes.
