Abstimmungsdenkmal

The Abstimmungsdenkmal is a stone column located on the south side of Malbork Castle in Poland. Its pedestal bears historical inscriptions and ornamental details, with a statue crowning the top.

The column was erected in 1922 to commemorate the 1920 plebiscite in which residents of the region voted on their political future. This vote determined whether the area would join East Prussia or Poland.

The statue depicts the Virgin Mary, which replaced the original German soldier figure when the region became part of Poland. This change reflects the religious and cultural significance the site holds for local people.

The monument stands at an easily accessible location on the south side of the castle and can be visited while exploring the historical district of Malbork. The site is reachable for pedestrians without major obstacles.
