Detmold Open-air Museum, Open-air history museum in Detmold, Germany
The Detmold Open-air Museum is an open-air museum in Detmold that displays historical buildings, traditional workshops and gardens. The site sits within the North Rhine-Westphalia countryside and spreads across several connected areas.
The museum opened on July 7, 1971, to preserve the rural heritage of Westphalia. The buildings were brought here from their original locations and reconstructed.
Craftspeople demonstrate old techniques inside the workshops, while heritage plant varieties grow in the gardens. On the meadows, rare livestock breeds that belong to the region graze and live.
The museum opens from April through October, Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 and 18:00. Admission costs 8 euros for adults, while visitors under 18 enter for free.
Each building was carefully taken apart at its original site and then reassembled here. The furnishings match the period from which the house comes.
