Maschsee, Artificial lake in Südstadt-Bult, Germany.
Maschsee is an artificial lake in the Südstadt-Bult district measuring 2400 meters long and 530 meters wide. The water surface accommodates sailboats, rowboats and pedalos, along with several swimming spots and grassy banks for sunbathing.
Construction started in the 1930s as a job creation scheme during the economic crisis. The opening took place in May 1936 after several years of work.
The name comes from the old marshland „Leine-Masch
Swimming areas have changing cabins and supervision during summer months. A path of roughly eight kilometers circles the entire body of water.
Canvas coverings and fake landscapes were installed on the water surface during the Second World War. This camouflage aimed to stop Allied pilots from using the reservoir for navigation.
