Illertissen

Illertissen is a town in Neu-Ulm district, situated south of Ulm near the Iller River. The landscape here is flat and green, with Vöhlin Castle standing as the most notable building in the town center.

First documented in 954 as 'Tussa', the town received city rights from Emperor Sigismund in 1430. This granted it economic autonomy and helped it grow into a regional trading center.

Vöhlin Castle houses the Bavarian Bee Museum and Homeland Museum, which display objects and collections that tell the story of life in this region. The exhibits show how people here worked and lived in earlier times.

The town sits on the Neu-Ulm-Kempten railway line, offering convenient train connections to surrounding areas. Airports at Memmingen, Stuttgart, and Munich are within reasonable distance for those arriving by air.

The Rococo chapel inside Vöhlin Castle displays ornate interior spaces from the 18th century. Nearby stands a preserved threshing machine from 1847, offering a glimpse into how farming once operated.
