St. Martin

St. Martin is a parish church in Illertissen with a single-nave hall design and windows positioned unevenly along its walls. The high altar was designed by Christoph Rodt and dominates the interior space.

The church was built on foundations dating back to 750, showing its deep historical roots in the location. A major reconstruction in 1590 created the current building, and the 48-meter tower was constructed at that time incorporating medieval elements.

The church serves as the spiritual center for the local community of Illertissen and hosts regular gatherings of parishioners. Its interior with the high altar has shaped the religious life of residents through many generations.

The church can be visited during regular services and religious events held throughout the year. Access is generally available during daytime hours, though it is advisable to check in advance when guided tours or specialized visits might be available.

The bell tower houses a carillon of 49 bells that has been in place since 2006 and plays musical compositions at regular times. This system adds a distinctive sound to the local area throughout the day.
