Berliner Brücke, Cable-stayed road bridge in Halle, Germany
Berliner Brücke is a cable-stayed bridge in Halle that spans the Saale River with a prominent A-shaped pylon rising above the water. The structure carries vehicles and pedestrians across the river while broad traffic lanes run on either side of the central tower.
The current bridge was completed in 2004 and replaced an earlier structure from 1916. This new construction marked the shift from older bridge engineering approaches to contemporary design and construction methods in the city.
The bridge design by architect Graul from Halle combines engineering requirements with architectural elements that reflect the regional industrial heritage of Saxony-Anhalt.
The bridge is accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians with clear paths on both sides. Visitors can walk across and enjoy views of the river and surrounding city from the crossing.
When completed, this bridge became Germany's first cable-stayed structure of this type designed specifically for road traffic. The enclosed supporting cables are among the thickest ever used for this particular bridge technology.
