Parsteiner See, Lake in Chorin, Germany
Parsteiner See is a body of water in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve that spans multiple basins and reaches depths over 30 meters. Reed beds line the shores while several peninsulas extend into the water, creating distinct zones within the lake.
The lake formed during the Ice Age from a glacial basin that created tonguelike basins shaping its current form with multiple bays. In the Middle Ages, Cistercian monks settled along its shores and left traces of their monastic culture in the region.
The Pehlitzwerder peninsula holds traces of a medieval monastery that once shaped the region's spiritual life. These remains speak to how faith and nature have been intertwined in shaping this landscape over centuries.
Visitors will find swimming areas near the campsite and the Pehlitzwerder peninsula where bathing is permitted. Motorboat use is restricted to help protect water quality and maintain calmer conditions for other activities.
The lake has housed a diving base at the campsite since 2007, allowing visitors to explore the underwater world. This draws divers who want to experience the aquatic life and submerged structures firsthand.
