Digicult, Museum network organization in Kiel, Germany
Digicult is a software platform in Kiel that helps museums digitally document and manage their collections. The solution enables institutions to record object information and share data in standardized formats across different systems.
The project began in 2003 with European funding support, initially based in Flensburg. It later relocated to the Christian-Albrechts-University campus in Kiel.
The network connects over 200 museums and collections from German federal states including Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Saarland, Thuringia, and Hesse for digital documentation.
Institutions can enter and manage their collection data through a web-based interface. The system is designed to enable collaboration and data sharing between different museums.
The platform was specifically built to enable exchange between German museums and European databases. It allows collections to structure their information in standardized ways for broader sharing.
