St. Jakobi, Gothic church in Schönebeck, Germany
The three-nave basilica features two square towers topped with baroque double domes, reaching a height of 48 meters on the western facade.
Construction of St. Jakobi began in the early 13th century using stones from nearby Plötzky quarries, when Schönebeck remained completely enclosed by walls.
The stained glass windows, created between 1885 and 1895 by glazier Ferdinand Müller, display scenes from the New Testament in the side aisles.
Following water damage in 1876, the church floor was raised by two meters, requiring visitors to descend several steps to enter the building.
The church houses a Dutch-style baptismal font from the 16th century and contains a tombstone commemorating Thomas Sarcerius, a significant Protestant minister.
