Holmmoor, Protected area between Hasloh and Quickborn, Germany
Holmmoor is a nature reserve located between Hasloh and Quickborn in Schleswig-Holstein covering roughly 110 hectares. Its core consists of thick peat deposits surrounded by wetland buffer zones that help protect the sensitive inner landscape.
The area was designated as a protected nature reserve in 1994 after local conservation groups worked for years to secure its future. This decision safeguarded the diverse plant and animal communities that depend on these boggy conditions.
The Naturschutzverein Hasloh/Quickborn association organizes guided nature walks and information sessions to educate visitors about the ecological characteristics of the moor.
The reserve is accessible to visitors along marked walking paths that wind through the terrain. Proper footwear is important since the ground remains wet and boggy even in drier seasons.
The moor harbors specialized plant species like heather and carnivorous sundew that thrive only in nutrient-poor conditions. These plants have evolved remarkable adaptations to survive in such demanding boggy environments.
