Reformierte Kirche

The Reformed Church in Aurich is a brick building with a distinctive circular floor plan and a central dome supported by eight Corinthian columns. The interior follows strict Neoclassical design principles, with this geometric arrangement drawing the eye upward toward the dome.

Construction took place from 1812 to 1814 as a replacement for a destroyed garrison church, made possible by substantial financial support. The building arose during a period of major political change in Europe that also affected the Aurich region.

This building served the reformed community of Aurich as their main place of worship for generations. The space became a central gathering point where members came together regularly for their religious life.

The church sits centrally in Aurich at Kirchstrasse 18 and is easy to find. The circular floor plan makes it simple to get your bearings inside, and you can experience the architecture from different vantage points.

Inside are valuable gold-silver communion vessels from 1730 that were made in Augsburg. These precious objects originally belonged to the princes of East Frisia and reveal the connections to regional centers of power.
