Nikolaikirche, Protestant church in Alzey, Germany.
The Nikolaikirche is a Protestant church building in Alzey with a three-nave hall church structure. The late Gothic choir was completed around 1450, while the tower was finished in 1499.
The church suffered severe damage from a city fire in 1689 and was reconstructed in 1715. During this rebuilding, the tower received a Baroque dome.
The name refers to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of merchants and travelers, a figure venerated across Europe. Inside, visitors encounter a calm, luminous interior shaped by contemporary renovation that emphasizes simplicity and light.
The church is easily accessible and located in central Alzey. Visitors can examine a Rudolf von Beckerath organ from 1976 inside, which features three manuals for playing.
The church houses four bronze bells from the 1950s, each dedicated to a distinct theme. These bells, honoring themes such as remembrance of the dead and Christ's resurrection, shape the sound character of the building.
