Perleberger Roland

The Perleberg Roland is a sandstone figure standing in the market square that depicts an armored knight holding a sword and shield. The work reaches a height of about five meters and has shaped the appearance of this central square for centuries.

The first written records of a Roland statue in Perleberg date back to 1498, while the present stone figure bears the year 1546 on its base. This span reveals how central the symbol of town independence was to the community.
