Dorfkirche Quitzow

Dorfkirche Quitzow is a fieldstone church with a rectangular western tower and straight chancel, built over several periods. The interior features late Gothic wall paintings in the apse that shape the character of the sacred space today.

Construction began in the 13th century with the fieldstone nave, the chancel followed later, and the western tower was added only in the 15th century. This building sequence shows how the structure was gradually expanded and adapted over several generations.

The place takes its name from the von Quitzow family, who held power here for centuries. Visitors can still see the memorials to this family inside, which tell of their historical importance to the region.

Access is available during the summer months, and information about visiting can be obtained from the Protestant parish office. It helps to contact them beforehand to ensure the church is open for your visit.

The portals on the north and south sides display a striking pattern of regular and dark glazed bricks that is characteristic of regional building traditions. These brick patterns served both practical and decorative purposes in local construction methods.
