St. Mauritius church

St. Mauritius is a Romanesque church building in Hildesheim featuring two choirs and two transepts. The structure is marked by a square tower at the crossing, beneath which lies an underground crypt.

Construction began in 1058 under Bishop Bernward and was completed between 1070 and 1072. The building underwent major transformations in the 18th century when Baroque elements were added.

The church displays a blend of Romanesque foundations with Baroque embellishments visible throughout the interior. Visitors notice how different stylistic layers exist side by side, reflecting transformations across the centuries.
