St. Konrad, Modern concrete church in Speyer, Germany

St. Konrad Church is a modern religious building made of exposed concrete with clean lines and a separate bell tower. The interior holds about 600 worshippers in a straightforward layout where the altar sits as the focal point without decorative distractions.

A smaller church served the parish from 1934, but the growing population in North Speyer soon outgrew this building. The new structure was completed in 1969 to meet the needs of the expanding postwar community.

The church is named after Saint Conrad of Parzham, a Bavarian Franciscan known for living a humble life devoted to serving others. This simple devotion shows through in the straightforward design, where every element serves a spiritual rather than decorative purpose.

The site includes a parish center, community hall, kindergarten, and youth facilities alongside the main church. This makes it a busy hub on weekends and special occasions, though weekday mornings offer quieter moments for private visits.

A striking concrete sculpture by artist Jakob Adlhart stands behind the altar, mixing religious symbols with everyday objects in an unexpected way. This blend reflects how faith connects to the ordinary moments of life rather than sitting apart from it.
