Wollingster See und Randmoore, nature reserve in Lower Saxony, Germany
Wollingster See and Randmoore is a protected nature reserve near Beverstedt covering about 117 hectares, comprising a lake and extensive moorland areas. The lake itself covers roughly 4.5 hectares and is surrounded by reed, sedge, and wet grassland bordered by pine and birch trees.
The area was first protected in 1932 and later expanded to include the moorland. The lake and surrounding bog formed through glacial processes during the ice age, leaving behind the Seeburg, a sand ridge that surrounds the lake.
The area draws people who value quiet observation and natural settings, and it has become a place where visitors come to connect with undisturbed landscapes. The protected reserve represents an important location for the region where people can learn how rare plants and animals thrive in wetland habitats.
Visitors can walk on marked trails, including a roughly 1.5 kilometer path around the lake. Stay on the designated paths, avoid picking plants or disturbing animals, and follow the protection rules to help preserve this reserved area.
The area hosts several rare plant species including quillwort, pillwort, and water lobelia that are seldom found elsewhere. These specialized plants thrive in the lake and moorland's unique wet conditions, making the site a valuable refuge for these uncommon species.
