Autobahnhochbrücke Hohenhörn, Road and steel bridge in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
The Hohenhörn Bridge spans the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal with a length of about 391 meters and a width of about 28 meters. The structure rises about 48 meters above water level, allowing ships to pass underneath.
Construction of this steel structure began in 1984 and was completed in 1989. The project represented modern infrastructure development in northern Germany during that era.
The bridge forms a key traffic link between Hamburg and Heide that carries daily vehicle flows across the waterway. Visitors can observe how this infrastructure connects distant regions and enables regional commerce and travel.
A parking area at the eastern approach provides access to footpaths leading to an observation point beneath the bridge. From there you can watch ships passing through the canal.
The bridge was built from 19 segments erected using special supports from the abutments. The hollow box cross-section design is particularly notable and was engineered to be accessible.
