Haus Felseck, Architectural heritage villa in Königswinter, Germany
Haus Felseck is a villa standing on the northwest slope of Drachenfels mountain, with a mansard hip roof and three-part facade featuring a central projection and gable. The building holds multiple residential apartments and remains protected as an architectural monument.
The villa was built in 1899 for a Cologne businessman named August Wirtz and expanded in 1910 with a porter's house added to the property. Major renovations between 1924 and 1925 brought it to its current appearance.
The house played a role in post-war diplomatic life, housing the Indonesian Embassy during the Cold War era and representing international presence in the Rhineland region. Its function as an embassy residence shaped how locals viewed this mansion on the slope.
The villa sits at Am Domstein 9 above Federal Highway 42 and is clearly visible from the street. Since it remains a residential building with occupied apartments, visitors should view it respectfully from a distance.
During World War II, several construction companies from Cologne temporarily relocated operations to this location, while the porter's house sustained wartime damage. This industrial repurposing remains largely unknown to visitors today.
