Rathaus Schwäbisch Gmünd

Rathaus Schwäbisch Gmünd sits at the upper end of the main marketplace and displays a facade with architectural elements from different construction periods. The building combines Renaissance and Baroque forms and shapes the appearance of this central public space.

The building was constructed in 1523 as a residence and later converted into the city's administrative center. Following a fire in 1793, it underwent extensive reconstruction with significant modifications by city architect J.M. Keller.

The town hall maintains its position as the central administrative building where local government decisions shape the community's development.

The town hall is easily reached from the marketplace and visitors can view the architecture from outside. The building is accessible during regular business hours, though advance notice is recommended if planning to visit interior spaces.

The building emerged from a residential structure and received modifications by city architect J.M. Keller between 1783 and 1785.
