Schießplatz Meppen, Military shooting range in Meppen, Germany
The Schießplatz Meppen extends over 31 kilometers in length and 5-7 kilometers in width, making it the largest land shooting range in Europe.
The shooting range was established in 1877 when Krupp company signed a contract with the city of Meppen for testing long-range artillery and naval guns.
In 1879, the facility hosted an international shooting demonstration where 97 officers from 18 nations gathered to observe Krupp cannons in action.
The facility operates under restricted access protocols, with entry permitted only to military personnel and authorized contractors for weapons testing and training exercises.
The range includes specialized measuring instruments throughout its 19,200-hectare area, enabling precise data collection during weapons and ammunition testing.
