ZooPark Metelen

ZooPark Metelen is a large animal park with habitats for around 1300 animals representing about 80 different species in North Rhine-Westphalia. The grounds feature walking paths, several playgrounds, a restaurant, and a petting area for children.

The site was established in 1975 and underwent several transformations, including periods as a bird park and adventure zoo, before becoming Dino Zoo Metelen in 2019. These changes reflect how the location adapted to changing visitor interests over time.

The facility emphasizes education about animal welfare and species protection through regular keeper presentations. Visitors can watch feeding times and learn directly about the animals' needs and natural behaviors.

The walking paths are easy to navigate and information stations about the animals are spread throughout the park. Plan for breaks since the grounds are extensive, and wear shoes with good grip for comfortable walking.

A special feature is the free-roaming Tamarin monkeys that visitors can watch in an open area of the park. This setup provides a more natural view of how these primates interact and move around.
