The area transformed from forest land in the late Middle Ages to meadows by the 16th century, with the first mention of northern parts as common pasture in 1574.

Access to the park changed in 2023 with new parking regulations managed by Dezernat IV, affecting both visitors and students of the Technical University.
The Darmbach stream flows through the park grounds, having undergone extensive renaturation work between 2009 and 2012.
