Eremitage Maria Reizenborn

The Eremitage Maria Reizenborn structure stands at an elevation within the Soonwald forest, connecting the towns of Simmern and Spabrücken through pilgrimage paths.

During the Middle Ages, monks selected this location for religious purposes, with the first hermit, Gerhard, establishing residence in 1718, followed by a chapel consecration in 1732.

The site maintains its religious significance through regular summer ecumenical services, continuing centuries-old traditions of community worship and pilgrimage gatherings.

Visitors can explore the reconstructed chapel, built on original foundations measuring 7.65 by 5.65 meters, which includes a museum showcasing local heritage.

Archaeological excavations revealed Celtic sanctuary remains from pre-Christian times, with stone figures dating to approximately year 1000 now preserved in Riesweiler's Evangelical Church.
