Schloss Wasseralfingen, Cultural heritage monument in Wasseralfingen, Germany.
Schloss Wasseralfingen is a four-winged château with an inner courtyard, situated at 412 meters elevation in the Ostalb district. The building's distinctive architectural layout creates a striking presence in the regional landscape.
The original water castle dates to the 14th century, but the current building took shape between 1590 and 1593 when Ellwangen Monastery undertook major reconstruction. This Renaissance-era renovation created the architectural form that survives today.
The castle has housed a school for children with speech impairments since 1992, becoming a center for specialized education in the region. This contemporary use shapes daily life at the site and shows how historic buildings can serve modern communities.
Visiting is possible year-round, and the exterior can be explored on foot from the surrounding area. Since the site functions primarily as a school, visitors should verify access to interior spaces beforehand to avoid disappointment.
Medieval festivals and historical reenactments regularly take place in the castle courtyard, showcasing authentic period crafts and traditional practices. These seasonal events bring the building's past to life for visitors in an interactive way.
