Mariahilf-Berg

Mariahilf-Berg is a hilltop in Amberg topped by a Church of Our Lady Help of Christians and an accompanying Franciscan monastery. The site sits high enough to provide views over the town and surrounding countryside, accessible via multiple well-maintained paths.

The hill became an important pilgrimage destination during the Middle Ages when residents sought refuge from plague outbreaks. Religious buildings were gradually constructed on the site and remain the defining features of the location today.

A Franciscan monastery with ornate Baroque details crowns the hilltop and shapes how visitors experience the place. The religious purpose remains visible in the layout and decoration, giving the site a contemplative character that draws both pilgrims and curious travelers.
