Tillyhaus, Baroque architectural monument in Ingolstadt, Germany
Tillyhaus is a three-story Baroque building in Ingolstadt with an ornately decorated gable roof facing Johannesstrasse. The facade features a bay window on the first floor, while arcade structures line the courtyard side.
Field Marshal Johann T'Serclaes von Tilly died in this house in 1632 from injuries sustained during the Battle of Rain in the Thirty Years War. The building was substantially renovated in 1710 and transformed into its current Baroque form while retaining older wall structures.
The exterior walls display a coat of arms and an inscription from 1600 that commemorate an important military leader. These marks tell the story of the house and make its past visible to visitors.
The building stands in the city center at Neubaustrasse 2 and is easy to spot from the street. Today it houses the city fire department and disaster protection office, so visitors can view it from the outside.
The building is named after Field Marshal Tilly who died there, but it actually existed before under a different name. This connection to the military leader transformed it into a well-known city landmark.
